EYE ON THE EAST VILLAGE Episode 11 Artist/Filmmaker ETHAN MINSKER

EYE ON THE EAST VILLAGE Episode 11 features an in-depth interview with artist/filmmaker/puslisher/activist ETHAN MINSKER, featuring Guest Co-Hosts Alex Carpenter & Maegan Hayward of the East Village Vintage Collective and recorded live at Hi-Note Radio/Bar at 188 Avenue B.

For the series’ second co-production with our downtown partner Hi-Note Radio/Bar on Avenue B, our Special Guest ETHAN MINSKER, a longtime fixture on the East Village music/art/film/underground scene, talks about his new feature film “Scooter LaForge, A Life of Art,” along with his thoughts and musings about his 20+ year career and life in the neighborhood, including being a founding member of the Antagonist Art Movement, a New York City-based group of artists, writers, and musicians who promoted work by up-and-coming talent between 2000 and 2011.  Ethan has written three novels, produced nine feature films, and continues his relationship with artists as a board member and president of Citizens for the Arts, a nonprofit group whose mission is to promote art for kids in underserved communities.  He was also the creator and editor-in-chief of Psycho Moto Zine in publication from 1988–2020.  For more info go to www.ethanminsker.com and follow him @ethanminsker on Instagram

"SCOOTER LaFORGE: LIFE OF ART" DIRECTOR ETHAN MINSKER | Film Threat Interviews

DOC NYC

WORLD PREMIERE Scooter LaForge, heir to the artistic legacies of Basquiat and Haring, believes an artist’s duty is to have fun. Influenced by Pollack, surrealism, and Saturday morning cartoons, Scooter’s queer, punk-rock aesthetic was embraced by downtown fashion designer Patricia Field, and his bespoke painted clothing has been worn by icons like Debbie Harry, Beyoncé, and Nicki Minaj. Laced with animations and NYC art mavens, this film, as vibrant as its puckish subject, charts the creative journey of a unique cross-medium artist. – Karen McMullen

Paper mache street art

12/27/21

Paper mache water towers have been popping up all over downtown and parts of Brooklyn. But to spot them you have to look up. Water towers have always been a part of the New York City skyline but for Ethan Minsker they represent the people that make up the city.

""adopted" and personified those ubiquitous urban turrets. By bringing them down to street level for closer consideration and appreciation, you've enhanced their elevation as essential vessels for survival." - Dean Lamanna
